BUILDING AMERCIA RETROFIT ALLIANCE
Buildings consume 40 percent of our nation’s energy and account for 40 percent of carbon emissions. Residential buildings account for over half the energy and carbon impact of all buildings. Our government has an obligation to help builders, remodelers, industry organizations and ultimately, consumers address the energy performance of homes.
In the summer of 2010, Confluence was pleased to be included in a new collaborative research team, awarded under the U.S. Department of Energy’s Building America Program to help reduce our nation’s energy use. Our team is called the Building America Retrofit Alliance, led by Building Media, Inc. We’re delighted to be part of this multidisciplinary team that provides research, outreach, and communications support to the Building America Program.
U.S. DEPARTMENT OF ENERGY’S BUILDING AMERICA AND BUILDERS CHALLENGE

Weatherization Training
Weatherizing America’s more than 115 million existing homes is a critical part of reducing our nation’s energy use and greenhouse gas emissions, and creating healthier living environments for people. Recognizing this, the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) allocated funds from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) of 2009 to significantly improve the performance of qualified low-income homes. Confluence Communications was proud to contribute to this process.
The State of Tennessee’s Higher Education Authority was provided funds through the 2009 ARRA funds to establish an aggressive training program specifically to support the Tennessee Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP). This program helps low-income households reduce energy costs by providing assistance to weatherize their homes.
Confluence Communications was charged with creating a full training curriculum that covered all aspects of the weatherization process, from the basics of building science to advanced building diagnostics. With only a 100-day deadline to meet, the project included over 35 individual training videos, study guides, and assessments.
For more information on this cool project, check out this example of the training material we prepared.
HANLEY WOOD UNIVERSITY
Training curricula and course development for American Institute of Architects (AIA) continuing education.
“Confluence Communications has been easy to work with from day one. They have successfully taken on many projects working directly with my clients as if they were part of my full-time staff. I’m always pleased with their quality of work, professionalism and reliability. When there is more work than my staff can handle, I turn to the team at Confluence Communications knowing that I’ll receive the same effort from them as I do from my own employees. They have taken on several different types of projects for me since 2010 I’ve been pleased with the results every time.”
